Elaphant Trekking in Patong, Phuket

In Patong, Phuket, a not to be missed experience is elephant trekking. Traditionally elephants have been the Thai kingdon's best friend since time immemorial. They are very intelligent and have long memories. Due to their size and power they were like machines to the Thais.

Elephants are part and parcel of Thai culture and the Thai way of life.

You can see handicraft depicting elephants every where. They can be trained to do many tasks including believe-it-or-not massage for the weary tourists :)

Honestly the elephants seem to be having fun together with the tourists.

From atop an elephant you get an elevated view of the surroundings. It is an adventure just to mount and sit on an elephant while it meanders gently along the jungle. An unforgettable experience and one to brag about when one goes home. Make sure the batteries on your cameras and video cams are fully charged. This is an experience not to be taken lightly. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.



The mahouts are mainly Karen and they have worked with elephants for centuries. They will take excellent care of you and guide you on your journey. Young elephants are playful. Their routine can include tasks like saying hello, giving kisses (with sound effects!), and painting "like Picasso". They will even 'dance' for you with or without music accompaniment.

Make sure to pose for pictures with the elephants before you leave. :) However you cannot adopt an elephant and take it home. I don't think the airlines will allow it to be packed inside your luggage, hahaha.
